Cray Wanderers 1–2 Thurrock

From Hayes Lane

Ryman One North

THURROCK secured a fine win at play-off rivals Cray Wanderers to further boost their promotion credentials.

Harry Agombar and Charlie Cole got the goals for Fleet in what is a significant boost to their top five hopes.

Away goalkeeper Rhys Madden made several key saves early on, as Cray looked to close the gap on their opponents, with former Grays Athletic defender Jay Leader heading over afterwards.

Fleet’s best early chance fell to Cole and he looked odds on to score when he was played through, with goalkeeper Nick Blue scoring.

Lewis Clark headed wide as Thurrock ended the half the stronger.

The first goal came shortly before the hour mark. Remi Sutton was fouled in the penalty area and Agombar netted from 12 yards.

Wall hit the bar minutes later but Mark Stimson’s side did get the second goal their play deserved with 20 minutes remaining.

Agombar sent in a cross and Cole headed in from on the goal line.

There was a huge boost in the final 10 minutes, as midfielder and captain Lewwis Spence returned from a long-term injury, and he almost scored a third only to drill wide.

James Duckworth pulled a goal back for Cray with three minutes remaining and they came inches away from a leveler.

Leigh Bremner hit the post and that missed chance proved costly.
