Grays Athletic 1-2 Dulwich Hamlet

From Mill Field

Ryman Premier League

GRAYS Athletic conceded a last-gasp winner against Dulwich Hamlet to extend their lead at the top of the league.

Nyren Clunis scored late on for Dulwich, despite the away side playing the final 20 minutes with ten men.

Grays had crushed Staines Town 4-0 in the week to earn a much-needed victory after a difficult run of form, and Blues knew they were going to be tested against the side topping the standings, who were on a three-match winless run in the league.

And it was the hosts that started impressively, forcing the pressure. Joao Carlos’ run saw him evade the attentions of two of the Dulwich defenders, with only Matt Drage’s defensive block keeping the scores level.

They then missed a golden chance to open the scoring after they were awarded a spot-kick.

Harry Agombar stepped up in the absence of Dumebi Dumaka only for his effort to be pushed aside by away goalkeeper Phil Wilson.

And it was the away side that took the lead, with Dean McDonald getting the goal to open the scoring but it only last 12 minutes.

Grays were awarded a penalty, in an incident which saw Danny Waldren sent off, and Bradley Fortnam-Tomlinson did what Agombar couldn’t and scored.

The home team were in the ascendency now and were piling forward in search of a winner, but they were caught out.

Clunis scored in the final moments to condemn the hosts to defeat and extend Dulwich’s lead at the top of the league.
