Grays Athletic 0–1 VCD Athletic
From Mill Field
Ryman Premier League
GRAYS Athletic’s indifferent recent form showed no sign of letting up as they went down 1-0 to strugglers VCD Athletic at Mill Field.
Blues had bowed out of the FA Trophy in the week to Corinthian Casuals and were looking to respond to that defeat against the Kent outfit, who had won just one of their 11 matches on the road.
Blues, minus influential midfielder Nathan Ferguson after he joined Burton Albion in the week, still had Dumebi Dumaka in their ranks and he was looking to get back on the score sheet after a barren recent run, and a number of trials at professional clubs.
VCD were dealt a significant blow midway through the first-half when Levander Pyke was taken off with an injury although that didn’t throw the visitors off their stride.
Shortly after the interval, Jay Leader committed a foul in the penalty area and former Aveley man Matty Bakare found the corner from 12 yards.
Grays pressed forward in search of a much-needed equaliser but their efforts were proving fruitless against an unexpectedly resilient defence.
Grays: Johnson, Ifill, Siva, Cronin, Leader, Agyemang, Addai, Beaney, Dumaka, Bloomfield, Carlos
