Canvey Island 0–3 Grays Athletic

CANVEY Island were swept aside by league leaders Grays Athletic, thanks to another fine performance from the away side’s attackers.

Dumebi Dumaka, James Stevens and a strike from Joao Carlos were enough as Grays' winning run went on.

The Gulls had already been beaten twice by Grays this season and they were favourites ahead of this match.

And the table-toppers started the match on top.

Eight-goal Dumaka tested former Grays goalkeeper Conor Gough between the posts, with the same man sending a header over soon after.

Gough was a busy keeper early on, with Nathan Ferguson coming close just afterwards although Canvey were looking good on the counter-attack.

On-loan Braintree Town man Wilson Carvalho fizzed an effort just wide before the first goal came.

And it was Carlos that broke the deadlock, as he cut inside and bent a shot across Gough inside the far post.

It should have been 2-0 soon after, when Dumaka robbed Lawrence Yiga only to be denied by Gough superbly.

And the second-half was no different. Grays were terrific, and two further goals added gloss to the scoreline.

Yiga fouled Dumaka and James Stevens crashed his spot-kick down the middle to double the advantage.

Carlos saw another effort denied by Gough before the excellent Dumaka took his tally to nine goals for the season, heading home from Siva’s cross.

Both sides had chances late on but it stayed 3-0, as Grays extended their lead at the top of the standings.
