Met Police 0

GRAYS claimed their first league point since September in a forgettable game at Mill Field.

Blues came into the match having won a number of cup matches but finding themselves slipping closer to the drop zone after a rotten run of form in the league.

Visitors Met Police sat below Grays in the league but had the better chances in this game, with the home side failing to register a meaningful effort on goal in the match.

Met Police dominated the first-half and missed two guilt-edged chances, the best falling to midfielder Ty Smith.

A first time ball over the Grays defence found Smith clean through, having been played onside by Phil Anderson. However the midfielder skewed his shot horribly with his effort posing more of a threat to the corner flag than Lamar Johnson’s goal.

Just before the break The Met again failed to make the best of a good situation. Howard Newton skinned Craig Pope for pace down the left flank and crossed for the unmarked Allan Tait. He rounded Johnson, but fell under pressure from the goalkeeper.

Screams for a penalty from the visitors were met with jeers by Blues fans with the referee failing to give a penalty or yellow card for diving.

Grays needed some inspiration in the second half but failed to find any from Ryan Kirby’s half-time team talk, with Grays failing to create any clear-cut chances in the second period.

The referee failed to help the flow of the game, often blowing his whistle when maybe he could have played on but as the game came to a close both sides seemed to settle for a point.

Grays: Johnson, Pope, Flynn, Anderson, East, Fry (Nouble), Lalite, Beaney, West (Moses), Hammond, Carlos.
