East Thurrock United 1-0 Burgess Hill Town

EAST Thurrock United climbed into third after substitute James Walker scored the only goal to see off Burgess Hill Town.

The striker came off the bench to score from inside the penalty area after 67 minutes to help John Coventry’s side to the points, in freezing conditions at Rookery Hill.

Sam Higgins, fresh from both goals against Tonbridge Angels on Saturday, drew an early save from the keeper, with Tom Wraight coming close to opening the scoring soon after.

Lewis Smith and Wraight again created opportunities, as the home side continued to dominate, although Rocks keeper Lukas Lidakevicius was drawn into a save towards the end of the half.

The chances continued to flow after the interval, although when the breakthrough came it was East Thurrock that made it.

Walker smashed home to send the home fans into raptures and, despite a few late scares, they held on for the points.
