Bognor Regis Town 2–2 East Thurrock United

From Nyewood Lane

Ryman Premier League

EAST Thurrock came from behind twice to secure an impressive point at Bognor Regis Town.

Strikes from Mitch Gilbey and Sam Higgins meant Rocks made the journey home with a point.

John Coventry had watched his side beat Leiston 3-0 last week, in what was one of their finest performances of the season to date.

Although it looked as though it would be a different story as the match neared its conclusion.

Alfie Rutherford had twice put Bognor ahead. His first effort came after 19 minutes, when Sami El-Abd worked his way into a crossing position and fed Rutherford who netted past Lukas Lidakevicius.

But Gilbey levelled the scores just four minutes before half-time, when Grant Smith kept out Higgins’ effort but, Gilbey was on hand to net seconds later after a fine cross from the marauding Tom Wraight.

Lewis Smith hit the post with a near post effort with 15 minutes remaining, with Higgins denied by the same post before Bognor did take the lead.

With just seven minutes of the match to go it appeared East Thurrock would not be able to follow up their fine performance against Leiston with more points.

Rutherford timed his run well and he rounded the keeper to score what appeared to be the winner.

But fresh from a hat-trick on Wednesday, Higgins netted with two minutes to go to earn a share of the spoils, drilling into the corner of the net.
