Waltham Abbey 1-2 Aveley
From Capershotts
Ryman One North
A SUPERB last-gasp strike from Billy Holland helped Aveley to a 2-1 win over Waltham Abbey.
The captain saw the Abbey goalkeeper off his line and sent a terrific effort into the net, cueing wild celebrations in the away end.
Aveley had made the early running as well, just without finding that decisive breakthrough. Alex Teniola had several chances but couldn’t find the net, with Arian Retkoceri volleying over the crossbar.
But Abbey ended the half strongly, and Aveley needed a goal line block from Junior Baker to keep the scores at 0-0.
The hosts did take the lead 10 minutes after the break, when Michael Pindy cut inside and finished composedly beyond James Marrable.
Justin Gardner brought on attackers Pet Elbi and Liam Nash and their introduction helped bring about a change in their fortunes.
Holland levelled with a header with 19 minutes to go but it was Marrable to the rescue once again soon after as he turned a fierce drive around the post.
Abbey hit the post before Holland had the final say.
Aveley: Marrable, Myers (Nash), Dicks, Baker, Oseyemi, Okwera, Deen, Holland, Teniola (Allarakhia), Retkoceri (Elbi), Preston
