Maldon & Tiptree 2–1 Aveley
From the Wallace Binder Ground
RYman One North
AVELEY threw away a first-half lead to go down against a plucky Maldon & Tiptree side.
The Millers had taken a first-half lead thanks to Billy Holland but they were pegged back at the start of the second period before shipping a second midway through the half.
Aveley started well, and Liam Nash could have opened the scoring after five minutes when his volley flew just past the post.
Michael Alaile went off injured in a blow to the away side but Maldon were struggling for consistency, although Darren Mills should have opened the scoring but he could only fire at James Marrable.
James Peagram fizzed a free-kick narrowly over the bar but four minutes later Justin Gardner’s men did find the net.
Nash crossed and Holland applied the finish.
Aveley ended the half strongly but couldn’t find the goal their play deserved and three minutes after the break, Maldon were level.
Femi Akinwande tapped home after being left unmarked in the box, and it was the same man that scored the second.
Marrable had to be at his best to keep out the initial effort but Akinwande was on hand to prod home the loose ball.
The striker almost scored again but missed the chance to make the game safe.
And Nash almost made the Jammers pay, but his late effort bounced back off the post, with Maldon holding out for the win.
Aveley: Marrable, Myers (Teniola), Dicks, Baker, Alaile (Harrison), Okwera, Nash, Holland, Elbi, Retkoceri, Peagram (Seymour)
