Histon 1-5 Aveley

From Bridge Road

FA Cup 1st Round Qualifying Round

AVELEY smashed five goals past Histon as they upset the odds to progress into the next round of the FA Cup.

The Millers became the first team to knock out the Southern League Premier side in the first qualifying round in 13 years, and they did so in style.

A brace from James Peagram, plus strikes from Billy Holland, Lee Prescott and Marcus Elliott ensured the victory.

And they started well, with Abs Seymour denied by Denzel Gerrar in the home goal.

But the first goal was only 17 minutes in coming. Liam Nash flicked on and Peagram flicked superbly past the goalkeeper.

Holland missed a guilt-edged chance to double the advantage before Peagram did just that. A defensive slip saw the forward break through and chip over Gerrar and into the net.

Two minutes into the second-half, Aveley saw their advantage halved when Sam Ives slotted home, but they picked themselves up and soon had a man advantage.

Evan Key was dismissed for dissent and Millers took full advantage.

Holland blasted into the bottom corner with 15 minutes to go and that proved to be decisive. Prescott hit a free-kick under Gerrar to make it 4-1 and Elliott made it 5-1 in stoppage time.
