AVELEY 1-1 Brentwood Town

From Mill Field

Ryman One North

A LATE equaliser denied Aveley all three points against play-off hopefuls Brentwood Town.

Alex Akrofi struck with five minutes remaining to cancel out Jack Stevenson’s penalty five minutes into the second-half.

Aveley had salvaged a late equaliser of their own only days before in a thrilling 4-4 draw with Romford, although this game was a much slower burner.

Millers struggled to test Town goalkeeper Ollie Bowles in the first-half, with an Ahmed Deen free-kick the closest they came.

But the game burst into life early after the interval, as Aryan Retkoceri was fouled in the area and Stevenson stepped up.

And although Bowles guessed the right way, he couldn’t keep out the forward’s spot-kick.

Town responded and could have drawn level within minutes, as Jack Gardner’s volley cannoned off the top of the crossbar and away.

A sickening clash of heads between both Millers centre-backs, Junior Baker and Spencer Harrison saw both substituted and taken to hospital before, five minutes from time, the visitors hit back.

Akrofi struck, meaning the points were shared, with Millers ending the night in 10th position.
