SEA ANGLING: SOUTH Essex anglers grabbed the limelight as the Kent Flounder League kicked-off at the weekend.
Essex fishermen grabbed the top four places in section A at Greenhythe, and there was a third place in section B.
South Benfleet’s Ian Reynolds topped section A with 110 points, narrowly beating Canvey’s Jason Speller into second by two points.
Rochford’s Dave Tanner was third with 100 points and Lewis Clarke, also from Rochford, was joint fourth with Mick Yates after they both scored 72 points.
Benfleet matchman Rick Hodson finished third in section B with 53 points.
The section was won by Kent’s Saul opage (74pts) with fellow Kentishmen Mark Cousens (58pts) second and Leigh Chapman (43pts) fourth.
The junior winner was Jason’s son Sonnie Speller, who also caught the biggest fish of the match, a 39cm flounder.
Gravesend hosts the second round of the Kent Flounder league on Sunday, March 25.
The match runs between 12.30pm and 5pm and booking in is at 10am at the Ship & Lobster pub. Anglers must pre-book with Jason on 07866 735933.
