ATHLETICS: AN incredible new best in the high jump took Khai Riley-Laborde into 3rd place in the Regional Schools Combined Events in Peterborough.

Khai from William Edwards School, had already had a good series of events in the Intermediate Boys Octathlon, but the 1.88m high jump was several centimetres better than other competitors, scoring him massive points.

Khai, better known for his UK Ranked performances in the 100m Hurdles and Shot Putt, has added an extra event to his repertoire. Khai’s dreaded event, the 1500m, will need some work before the final in Exeter in September.

In the Intermediate Girls event, Amelia Sumun from Hassenbrook school, came in a creditable 8th position in her first year in Heptathlon. Amelia’s efforts brought her a personal best time in the 200m, 800m and in the Javelin. She equalled her best in the high jump.

Chay Clark from William Edwards, turned in some fine performances to finish 4th in the Under 15 Girls Pentathlon. Chay was lying in 7th place before the last event, the 800m. She ran a forceful first lap and after a tremendous fight in the last 200m first in a best time of 2mins 43.7. She stole enough points to move up three places.

Chay joins Khai in representing Essex Schools in Exeter. All three athletes will be in action at the District Sports on the 7th July at Blackshots stadium and will be looking to improve their performances in preparation for the Exeter event.
