SOCCER lovers from Thurrock have the chance to hear a patriotic new footballing song this weekend.

Thurrock’s John Dean is the musical maestro behind a would-be new England World Cup song being launched at the The Ship pub in East Tilbury on Easter Monday. The launch party starts at 2pm and those involved hope that the song may catch the public’s mood and become the new England song in the run up to the World Cup in South Africa.

John Dean said: “The song hasn’t been played anywhere in public yet, so we are hoping for a good turnout. The producer of the song is Mark Sach of Larry and the Streamers fame and he has done a fantastic job, along with all the musicians — especially the all female brass section, called Got the Horn.

The World is Gonna Know is the name of the song from the Travellin’ Tilburys.

John Dean’s career in music has spanned over 30 years both as a solo artist and half of the well known borough duo Morgan & Dean.

The World is Gonna know is a version of Eddie Grant’s famous ‘Gimme Hope Joanna’ with lyrics specifically re-written to support the national side.

The Thurrock version has songwriter and reggae legend Eddie Grant’s full approval.

John said: “This was paramount considering that the original version is an anthem in South Africa due to its anti-apartheid theme.”

It is also the stroke of genius that John hopes will rocket the song into the charts just before the tournament this summer.

Recording took place over five sessions during March using eight musicians.

The song will be available shortly in a variety of formats including a download version available via I-tunes, Napster & Amazon and a CD version, which will include instrumental and karaoke mixes, plus the original demo.

The musician were: John Dean – Lead Vocals and Acoustic Guitar; Mark Sach – Bass Guitar; Eddie Stewart – Electric Guitars; Larry Buckley – Drums and Backing Vocals; June Carroll – Keyboards and Backing Vocals; Karen Straw – Trumpet, Piccolo Trumpet and Backing Vocals; Kit Mlynar – Saxophone; Faye Treacy – Trombone.
