Orsett 1sts 154 ao Horndon CC 155-5 HORNDON ones finished their pre season campaign with a convincing win against local rivals and SNEL division one side Orsett.

Batting frist Orsett struggled to get going mostly due to the brilliance of Horndon new boy and ex-Orsett opener Ryan Madder who took 5-28 including ex-Horndon overseas Steve Mendes for 0.

Skipper Wayne Reed led the way for Orsett with a well made 56, with Shadid Khan chipping in with 30 and Alex Karkoski 27. Also amoungst the wickets was Mark Wills with 2-25 and Ed Powell 1-37.

In reply the total never looked enough as openers Mike Canavon (29) and stand-in skipper Danny Joyce (26) got Horndon off to a solid start against new ball pairing of Scott Duglous and Mendes whom failed to make any in roads with the new ball.

After both were dismissed, Dave Stitson (26), Liam Hubbard (24) and Dan Taylor (21) dug in and ensured that Horndon reached their target with more than 5 overs to spare.

Khan took a much needed 2-24 for Orsett.

Skipper Joyce said 'it was a nice win to round off a decent pre season programme for the first team and we look forward to the league season next week.

Madder bowled exceptionally well and it was good to see that whilst no one made a big score with the bat, the whole top order chipped in and we comfortabley chased the runs.'
