A THURROCK Ju-Jitsu club’s talented students have represented their country in the Netherlands with great success.

Year 7 students from East Thurrock Ju-Jitsu Club were selected for the UK squad to compete at the European Random Attack Championships in Tilburg.

The club, which trains twice a week in Corringham and Tilbury, were looking to make an impression.

A team of 23 were taken by Hanshi Brian Herbert, 9th Dan, and head coach Sensei Lee Bywater. Hanshi Brian Herbert, Oliva Pasquale, Tyler Hudson, Beau Copper, Andy Jones, Thomas Pasquale, Sarah Bull and Chris Carter were the competitors.

Beau, with his Uki Tyler, won bronze in the Youth Men category and Sarah, with her Uki Chris, claimed gold - the first gold in six years in the Masters Women category.

Following the event, Hanshi Herbert said: “I am immensely proud of all the team who competed in this year’s competition. The standard is always extremely high but, this year, most of the fights could have gone either way.

“I am very proud of my students who have worked extremely hard over the last 12 months and I am sure our medal tally in two years time will rise even further.”
