KARATE: Grays’ Yamaguchi Goju-Kai impressed at their tournament of the year - the Presentation Cup Championships.

Held in Clacton, the club claimed seven gold medals, eight silver medals and eight bronze medals to take their total to 23 for the weekend.

In the kata, the gold medallists were Sasha Edgeler, Emma Westcott and Amy Raven, while Ethan Neale-Buckley triumphed in two finals.

There were silver medals for Emma Westcott and Owen Dixie, while bronze medals in the kata were awarded to Brayden Hoal, Danielle Ball, Amalia Olaru and Abi Tilbury.

Owen Dixie won a terrific three medals in the competition.

In the pairs kata event, Amy Raven and Danielle Ball teamed up to earn a silver medal.

The kumite category was equally as successful.

The club won two gold medals, Danielle Ball and Amy Raven triumphing as the latter made it golds in both fields.

Brayden Hoal, Maddison Ball and Abi Tilbury were silver medallists and Amalia Olaru won bronze.

In the team kumite, Abi Tilbury, Amalia Olaru and Maddison Ball again won silver medals.

The club also named its junior and senior competitors of 2017, with Danielle Ball winning the Senior League and Amy Raven winning the Junior League.

The competition is judged on points accumulated from tournaments throughout the year.
