JOHN Wayne Hibbert would welcome a fight against Curtis Woodhouse after getting through his comeback bout with a points victory.

The Horndon-on-the-Hill fighter defeated Lithuanian Arvydas Trizno at the Brentwood Centre (60-55).

The fight saw a change in tactics and approach for Hibbert, who was boxing at welterweight after making the step up from super lightweight.

And he said it was a very tough test.

“This lad was a strong fighter,” said Hibbert, 32.

“He was tough and, if I am totally honest, after coming off recent stoppages there was a bit of a fear factor.

“I haven’t done much hard, sparring recently and these were six hard rounds so there were a few questions in my mind.

“But I stuck to the game plan and used the jab well and didn’t get involved in a fight.

“I was following some new tactics instead of coming forward I am looking to box my way in to fights and be a bit smarter at times.

“It was good and a hard fight as I had to stay disciplined and my natural instinct is to get stuck in.

“It was probably not a performance my supporters are used to.”

The fight was the first for Hibbert since last November, when he was beaten by Martin Gethin at Wembley Arena.

Hibbert is likely to have surgery on a cut near his eye in the coming months, revealing some scar tissue has built up around the area.

And there are some big names being mooted as his next opponent – including former professional footballer Curtis Woodhouse.

And Hibbert says the fight against the Yorkshireman (22 wins, seven defeats) would be a welcome one.

“It looks like the fight could happen,” said Hibbert.

“He needs to win his next fight and I may look at one more before the year is out but then it could be one that we look at.

“Ricky Boylan, Tyler Goodjohn and Johnny Garton are other names that have been mentioned and all would be very good options.

“It is an interesting time for me at the moment, and there are some interesting options on the table.”
