GRAYS boxer Tey Lynn-Jones bounced back from his first professional defeat to triumph on points against experienced opponent Dan Blackwell.

The 23-year-old from Grays was competing at The Brentwood Centre in his eighth professional fight.

Middleweight Lynn-Jones won five of the six rounds against 24-year-old Blackwell, who has boxed an impressive 75 contests already despite his young age.

And he said he was pleased with his performance.

“My team and I were very happy with my performance after being out of the ring for a few months due to injuries,” said Lynn-Jones.

“I established my jab early on and everything worked nicely off of it.

“I now can’t wait to get back into the ring and continue my professional career.

“It was nice to see new faces supporting me and I hope my following continues to grow.

“I can’t thank my friends, family, trainers and sponsors enough for their help and support.”

Lynn-Jones knew he was in for a tough night at the MTK Boxing Show bill, with Blackwell previously defeating unbeaten Liam Desmond, from Corringham, on points at Grays Civic Hall.

Lynn-Jones also fought on that bill and knew of the threats posed by the older man, but he boxed in a controlled manner and put in a polished performance to control the contest.

Built on a stiff jab and good punch placement, Lynn-Jones won five of the six rounds, with the other ending all square.

Knowing he was behind in the contest, Blackwell applied pressure in the fifth round, but he was unable to establish any sustained attacks due to Lynn-Jones’ quick movement and counter punches.

Lynn-Jones thanked his sponsors Micky Norcross, of the Sugar Hut, Oakfield Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic, Smart Asbestos, CPI Euromix & Tick Construction.
