THURROCK Harriers secured a host of personal bests in the Hemel Hempstead Open Pentathlon.

Results: U13G: Nazia Saleen-Carey (pentathlon third 1757 points, long jump 4.02, 70m hurdles 13.1, shot putt’s 5.16, high jump 1.18 and 800m 2:50.1 - all PBs), Rosie Townley (pent 1518 PB; long jump 3.63 PB, 70m hurdles 15.0 PB, shot 5.17 PB, high jump 1.21 PB), Madeline Booty (pentathlon 1289 points, shot 3.95, high jump 1.21, 800m 2.55.5 - PBs), Mille Tredgett (pentathlon 1282 points, long jump 3.33, shot 4.94, high jump 1.09, 800m 2:56.7 - PBs), EJ Nwachukwu (pentathlon 1262 points; long jump 3.41, shot 6.16, high jump 1.15 - PBs), Emily Butler (pentathlon 855 points; LJ 3.19, 70m hurdles 18.4, shot 4.50, high jump 1.09, 800m 3:22.0 - PBs).

U11G: Sophie Matthews (pentathlon 4th 378 points, long jump 2.33, 55m hurdles 12.1, shot 4.33, high jump 1.03, 800m 2:09.4 - all PBs).

U13B: Kenzie McCarthy (pentathlon 4th 795 points, 75m hurdles 17.1, high jump 1.25, 800m 2:47.8 - all PBs).

U15G: Ruby Bridger (pentathlon 1st 2981 points), Sola Taiwo (pentathlon 2nd 2850 points, long jump 4.96 PB, 800m 2.33.1 PB), Tilly Monk 2231 points, long jump 4.43, 75m hurdles 14.5, shot 6.99, 800m 2:46.2 - all PBs), Chenice McCarthy (pentathlon 1457, long jump 3.67, 75m hurdles 15.9, high jump 1.28, 800m 3:22.6 - all PBs).

U15B: Daniel Ogutuga (pentathlon 1st 2492 points, 80m hurdles 13.1, high jump 1.73 - all PBs), Ore Adepegba (pentathlon 1915 points, 80m hurdles 13.4, high jump 1.64).

U17M: Theo Adesina (pentathlon 1st 2791 points, javelin 32.93, 200m 23.1, 1500m 4:38.5 - all PBs).

In the Southern Athletics League, the seniors edged closer to the most unlikely of escapes from relegation by winning their round four match.

Glenn Rawlinson secured a PB in the javelin with a throw of 47m only to lose by a few cms to his Havering opponent.

As always, points winners were Ben Gibbs and Michael Shortall who, between them, covered a third of the events.

Veterans Jon Metcalf and Scott Rice performed well in the 3000m and steeplechase events.

Joe Logan, Taylor Newell, Sarab Dhillon, Jack Exley and Mason Hambleton produced PBs in 800m and 1500m, with Ben Prior securing a 1500m PB.

The sprinters were in good form and wins came in the B 100m with Jesse Allen and in both relays Liam Chivers ran a great 400m and 200m.

Regan Cuthbert impressed in the sprints and high jump.

The highlight of the women’s sections performance in the fourth round of the SAL was the 15 point contribution of Sue Lawrence in the shot, discus and hammer and was second in the javelin.

Toyin Olufemi won the ‘B’ discus and Abigail Pain the ‘B’ javelin, with Jill Boosey’s second in the ‘B’ hammer and Rhea Starvi third in the ‘B’ shot.

Amber Pollinger won both the 800m and 1500m comfortably and Lola Omowanile had a valuable win in the ‘B’ 100 and was second in the ‘B’ high jump.

Under-17 athlete Jessica Whitbread did well in the long and triple jumps and earned valuable points for the team in the 100m hurdles.

Toyin Olufemi returned an impressive 13.5s in the 100m.

The final match, next month in Tonbridge, is essential if Division Two competition is to be retained next season.
