HORNDON-ON-THE-HILL’S impressive cup run continued when they welcomed Kent champions Linton Park in the National Village Cup.

Opting to bowl, Horndon applied pressure from the first ball, with Jeff West Jnr bowling an incredible eight-over spell of spin to take five wickets and put the home side firmly in the driving seat.

Debutant Tom Piggott also picked up 3-16 and Linton Park were all out for just 127, a total Horndon were confident of chasing.

Horndon started slowly, Tom Stone and Jack Walsh facing a tough opening before the former went for 19, with Walsh following soon after.

At 45-3, things looked bleak, with Scott Plom’s departure making it 54-4.

West was joined by 17-year-old Daniel Stone with 73 still required, but they played beautifully - Stone ending on 30 not out and West 46 not out as he finished the innings with a six.

Horndon progress to the last 16 and travel to Buckinghamshire to face Bedlow Village Cricket Club on Sunday, July 9.
