BOXING: Chadwell St Mary ABC enjoyed a fantastic start to the new boxing season as two fighters secured silver medals in fine fashion.
James Josling, 15, was scheduled to fight in the National Junior Championships at the Basildon Sporting Village before they were moved to Liverpool.
But he excelled away from home, Josling (40kg) only losing in the final on a split decision against a much taller opponent.
Hughes (57kg) travelled to Rotherham to compete in the Amateur Boxing Senior Elite Championships.
Having had her second child just five months ago, Hughes showed dedication to lose 17kg in order to enter the championships.
And she beat established opponents to reach the final, before also losing a split decision.
Sindy Overy, chairperson of the Chadwell St Mary ABC said: βIt is a massive achievement from both boxers, rating them at number two in the country at their age and weight.β
