SUPER-SUB Goldy Capela bagged a brace to fire Billericay Town to a 2-0 win against struggling Grays Athletic at New Lodge.

Capela scored twice in the second half as Billericay secured a ninth home success a row.

And Town started strongly on Saturday when Kam Guthmy was played in down the left hand side by Kreshnic Krasniqi.

His effort across goal was well saved by Amadou Tangara but the rebound fell to Krasniqi who took a touch before firing another effort at the Grays keeper.

Tangara made probably the save of the match with a point blank stop from Brandon Diau, somehow managing to turn the ball over when a goal looked a certainty.

The same man squandered another golden opportunity after a free-kick found him in acres of space just yards from goal with Blues’ defenders standing like statues looking for an offside.

Moments later, Ibrahim Diallo headed wide before the best chance of the first half fell to Edvardas Gaurilovas whose bullet header was superbly tipped over by Tangara.

With Billericay continuing to attack, the in-form Ricky Sappleton sent an acrobatic effort off target before the home-side broke the deadlock in the 58th minute.

Capela instigated the move himself as he picked up the ball 20 yards out and unleashed a powerful effort which deflected off of Nathan Campbell before nestling in the bottom right hand corner of the net.

Manager Jamie Stuart entered the fray allowing Arron Wickham to slot into midfield and he quickly made an impact getting on the end of a Harry Watkins corner, nodding just wide of the near post. He had a similar opportunity from a free kick heading into Giddens’ arms. Blues were enjoying their best period of the game at this stage and it was Luke Hornsley who had the next opportunity turning quickly, but firing a long way wide of the goal.

Grays - who are now bottom of the table - reacted well to falling behind and Hornsley saw an effort flash across the penalty area.

But Billericay made sure of the three points in stoppage time when the ever-present Quentin Monville put in a great low cross which enabled Capela to fire home his second goal of the game.

And that continued Town’s fine run of form which has seen them lose just once in 16 outings.
