HORNDON-ON-THE-HILL were beaten by four wickets against a strong Gidea Park & Romford outfit.

Jack Walsh hit 75 and Damien Sweet (67) but that wasn’t enough for Horndon. Having lost the toss, the hosts were put into bat and they started well, losing just Rob Hutchinson (eight) cheaply as they batted to 166-2 and 229-3. But the middle order failed to back up the efforts from the top order as Horndon scored a below-par 277.

Opening bastman Kasi Hoq’s 89 set the tempo for Gidea Park, with Shawn Findlay adding an important 66 as the innings went on. Gidea closed on 283-6 in 44.5 overs.

Ryan Madders was the pick of the Horndon bowlers as he ended with 3-88, as Jack Marson, Tom Piggott and Damien Sweet all took one wicket.
