A number of young Thurrock Harriers athletes took part in the Lee Valley Open in north east London last Saturday, with a promising number of personal bests recorded.
Endurance runners took to the track for the Open, with Under-13 starlet Demi Eves not only finishing first in her race but also bringing home a personal best in the 800m in a time of 2m 34.11s.
Scarlett Carter ran in the 70m hurdles race, finishing third in a time of 17.59s (PB).
Under-15 Hayley Instance ran in the 800m mixed with the senior woman and ran very well, gaining a new PB time in 2m 24.99s.
Sarah Blockley ran a season’s best in the 800m, coming home in a time of 2m 42.85s.
Under-17 women’s athlete Lucie Ball ran the 800m in a SB time of 2m 39.97s.
Under-17 athlete William Adeyeye also ran well on the day, despite only recently recovering from injury, gaining a PB in the 100m hurdles with a terrific time of 14.17s and a SB in the 100m with 11.54s.
Under-17 Kendrea Nwaelene gained a SB in the 100m with a time of 12.90s, and also ran the 200m in 26.88s.
Under-20 male Nweike Nwabude came second in his race with a time of 24.27s, an effort made even more impressive because of the headwind of -5.8s.
