Burnham Ramblers 1-3 Thurrock

From Leslie Field

Ryman One North

THURROCK recorded their third straight win to get their play-off tilt firmly back on track.

Fleet have struggled for consistency since the turn of the year, but they won well at the league’s bottom side Burnham Ramblers.

The away side started the brighter, with L’heureux Menga denied inside the first three minutes by Matt Belcher in the home goal, with the keeper denying Ross Wall soon after.

But the striker made up for the miss soon after, slotting home from a neat Aaron Waters cross.

Thurrock were the better side in the first period, and they thought they had doubled their advantage soon before half-time. Lewwis Spence put the ball in the net, but did so with his hand and the goal was disallowed.

But it was the away side that equalised on the stroke of half-time. A corner was partially cleared and Charlie Burns crashed a fine shot beyond Rhys Madden.

However, Fleet restored their lead soon after the break, as Menga broke forward and evaded Burnham’s goalkeeper and last defender to slot home.

Thurrock continued to press, with Leslie Thompson denied as the match wore on, although he was to get on the score sheet soon after.

Substitute Steve Carvell fired in a free-kick that Matt Belcher could only push into the path of Thompson who scored.

Thurrock now sit only two points off fifth placed Wroxham.
