CORRINGHAM cyclist Daniel Patten will be one of the founding members of Sir Bradley Wiggins’ new cycling team.

Patten, 28, who has been racing in America for the past season, was confirmed in Team Wiggins when the line-up was announced today.

Eight riders were confirmed in the team that has a reported annual budget of £460,000 and will operate in the third tier of world cycling.

Wiggins himself will continue to ride for his current squad, Team Sky, until June when he will be eligible to transfer to his new team.

The reigning Olympic and World time-trial champion wants to fulfil his final road ambition of winning the Paris-Roubaix spring classic before turning his attention to the new venture.

Patten has raced in Belgium and America before signing for the Team 7 Eleven team in the Philippines at the beginning of last year.

But after just one race, he returned to racing in Belgium before seeing out the year in America where he finished up with three victories and six other podium finishes.

The new Team Wiggins are largely expected to compete on the domestic scene but will also contest a number of races on the continent.

Wiggins’ long-term aim is to use the team to prepare him for a gold medal on the track at the Rio Olympics next year.
