THURROCK’S ladies first team were unlucky to go down 3-0 at Canterbury III in Eastern League division two south east.

The scoreline was not a true reflection of a game that saw Thurrock battle until the final whistle.

Stand-out players for the visitors were Meera Sud and Natalie Beardwell who combined well down the left and goalkeeper Alison Hadley who thwarted the Canterbury attackers on plenty of occasions.

The ladies’ second team were out of action due to a frozen pitch while the third team were beaten 5-0 at home by East London.

Despite the scoreline, there were plenty of encouraging signs for the thirds, with Katie Lawrence, celebrating her 21st birthday, in stand-out form, ably supported by Jo Diss and Viv Thomas. All three shared the accolade of players of the match Thurrock’s men’s first team also had to kick their heels after their game was postponed because of a frozen pitch, while the seconds beat Old Lought’s Academy 3-2 with goals from Dave Everett, Matt Fleming and stand-in captain Ricky Smith.

The third-team had their work cut out away to a strong Old Southendian VI team, eventually losing 3-0.

Michael Fleming almost gave T’s the lead but despite the best efforts of keeper Dave Leeks, Old Boys scored from a short corner.

Southend were the dominant force in the second period, scoring two further goals.
