NON LEAGUE: EAST Thurrock United were the only side to profit from a busy midweek fixture list in the Ryman Premier Division.

John Coventry’s side drew 0-0 at home against Lewes in an entertaining match, with Sam Higgins, inset, wasting Rocks’ best opportunity on the night.

But the away side had chances of their own, striking the crossbar and there were also appeals for a goal after a goalmouth scramble saw the ball roll along the goal line.

The result leaves East Thurrock in 10th position.

Both Canvey Island and Billericay Town suffered defeats, with the latter conceding in the dying moments to surrender a point against Bognor Regis Town.

Billericay started slowly and an uncharacteristic mistake from captain Richard Halle saw Ben Johnson put the visitors in the lead.

It wasn’t until five minutes from time that Billericay drew level, Junior Appiah scoring his first for the club, but moments later Alex Parsons squeezed the ball home from a tight angle to end Billericay’s four match winning streak.

Canvey were soundly beaten 4-1 by Tonbridge Angels, although it was the visitors who struck first.

A pass from Rio Bryan-Edwards found Victor Osobu and the striker rounded the keeper to score, although the Gulls’ joy was short-lived.

A swift counter-attack saw Billy Medlock equalise and Dee Okojie hit a decisive blow with the half-time whistle looming, striking into the goal from 20 yards.

An error from keeper Danzelle St Louis-Hamilton saw Harrison Tweddell give Angels a 3-1 lead before Medlock added a second in the injury time.

In the Ryman North, Great Wakering Rovers slumped to a fifth consecutive home defeat against AFC Sudbury, with Kris Newby striking a hat-trick.

Rovers were 3-0 down at the break before Tom Strickland handed them a lifeline ten minutes into the second half. But Newby and a brace from Aryton Coley ended Dan Trenkel’s side’s hopes.
