SPEEDWAY: THE Vortex Hammers produced a solid team performance when they saw off the challenge from the Leicester Lions, with a 59-36 point victory.

Skipper Davey Watt showed his intentions in the first race of the evening, stalking Lions number one Jason Doyle for three laps, before overtaking his Aussie compatriot.

The first Fast Track reserves race took two attempts to be run, first when Clegg moved at the start, then due to a second bend fall for Bates. Reserves Adam Ellis and Southend-based Ben Morely then took control in the third attempt, recording a classy 5-1.

On the night Hammers delivered 14 heat winners, and the Purfleet-based team will be looking to maintain this form when they seek revenge against the table-topping King’s Lynn Stars, who visit The Raceway on June 20.

l Vortex Hammers pair Richard Lawson and Lewis Bridger suffered a tough night in the British Final at Monmore Green on Monday, scoring 6 and 5 points respectively. With a place at the British GP up for grabs, the Hammers pairing began the meeting in good style, meeting in the third race, with Lewis claiming a win over his team mate.

Bridger followed that with a second place in heat 5, but then recorded last places in his remaining three rides. Lawson returned a last place in his second outing, in heat seven before scoring two points in heats 9 and 20. The meeting was won by Tai Woffinden, with Craig Cook claiming the British GP wildcard place.
