RUGBY: THURROCK T-Bird Mercedes Foy played her part in England’s women finishing second overall in the RBS Women’s Six Nations.

She was part of the England team which logged a comfortable victory over Italy.

The score in Rovato was 24-0 with Mercedes’ friends and clubmates making the trip to Italy to watch her turn out in a white shirt for England yet again in this competition.

Thurrock’s T-Birds second string finally managed a win this season against a decent Medway team, who won the reverse fixture by over 20 points.

Thurrock dominated territory and possession for much of the game.

Georgie Tricker was first to score under the posts and she converted her own try for 7-0.

Medway came back into the match early in the second half and levelled the score 7-7.

But as the clock wound down Thurrock put a penalty kick into the corner and executed the perfect “catch and drive” to push the score to 14-7.
