ATHLETICS: ONE of the great innovators in British athletics and former Thurrock Harrier Ron Sales has passed away aged 88.
Ron affected changes in athletics during the late 1960s and early 1970s that are still felt today.
He pioneered the introduction of the National Young Athletes league which is still around today.
His skills with detailed organisation and a creative vision were his strengths and he also organised young athletes road relays and a hugely successful early season young athletes meeting, both of these at Crystal Palace. Ron was brought into athletics by his sons David and John when they joined Thurrock Harriers. He is survived by his wife Maureen,
