PREMIER LEAGUE: WEST Ham boss Sam Allardyce felt his players buckled under the significance of the occasion for the home side as the Hammers lost 2-0 to Everton.

The Toffees were bidding farewell to manager David Moyes after 11 years as he bossed his last match at Goodison Park before joining Manchester United this summer.

Moyes is stepping into Sir Alex Ferguson’s shoes following his decision to retire after 26 years in charge at Old Trafford.

“The way we played today we were lucky to get away with 2-0,” Allardyce said after Moyes was given a rousing reception before, during and after the match by the Everton faithful.

“There was only one player who has been outstanding for us and that was (goalkeeper) Jussi Jaaskelainen, who made some outstanding saves.

“I warned the players before the game what it was going to be like — it was exactly that and the players couldn’t cope.”

Striker Kevin Mirallas ensured Moyes departed Goodison Park for the final time as Everton manager in perfect circumstances.

The Belgium striker scored both goals to provide a fitting send-off for the Toffees boss.

The first goal came after six minutes when the ball was moved in from the left touchline from Leighton Baines to Marouane Fellaini, the two players most likely to be coveted by Moyes for his new dawn at United, and then on to Steven Pienaar who teed up Mirallas to drill home from the edge of the area.

Everton’s second goal came on the hour when Pienaar released Mirallas to run at the defence and his shot deflected up off James Collins and past Jaaskelainen.

The Hammers goalkeeper denied Osman’s first-time strike to prevent a third and Collins deflected Pienaar’s goalbound shot wide.

Even West Ham’s on-loan Liverpool striker Andy Carroll could not but a dampener on proceedings, hitting the post with a late header.
