Ware 0 Aveley 0

Both goalkeepers were on the top of their game at Wodson Park and the point was enough to keep Millers in second place in the Ryman Division One North before they travel to Waltham Forest on Tuesday.

Steve Browne made one change to the line up with Daniel Francis replacing his namesake Liam. Craig Braham had to settle for a place on the bench after his return from suspension.

The first half started sloppilly, neither side taking the game by the scruff of the neck on a very bouncy pitch.

Chances were few and far between in an uneventful first half hour with the only incident of note being Braham replacing the injured Daryl Bourgeois.

The game livened up a little in the closing stages of the half when the first real chance was created when a through ball was threaded to Chris Ellerbeck who was clear on goal but just when it mattered his touch was too heavy and the ball was collected by Millers keeper Marc Palmer.

Aveley had the best chance of the half when the ball fell to Kenny Kennedy whose venomous shot from outside the area was met with an equally good a save by Ware keeper Anthony Anstead.

Daniel Francis then found his way into the box but when the midfielder should have shot he decided to put a ball into the box that was easily cleared.

The home side came out for the second half much the better and could have found themselves a goal to the good up when Steve Horsey was one-on-one with Palmer but the onrushing keeper blocked the goalbound effort.

Palmer was again called into action when Chris Ellerbeck went on a solo run from the half way line and unleashed a good strike goal wards but it was fantastically pushed round the post by the keeper.

Aveley were on the end of some excellent goalkeeping themselves when Richard Halle forced Anstead to expertly tip the ball wide.

For the last quarter of an hour the Millers were under the cosh and when Halle missed a header it let Ellerbeck through on goal with only Palmer to beat but the keeper denied the Ware midfielder from his original shot and then saw his second shot go wide of the target.

Danny Spendlove spurned another good home chance when he arrived late into the box with his header going just over the bar.

Palmer's services were once more required when a second Halle defensive error saw Palmer save from another Ellerbeck effort.

But when the Millers' keeper did make a rare mistake the luck was on his side. He missed a cross into the box and it fell to Paul Burton but his shot was deflected for a corner.

After that he remaining minutes were tamely played out, with both sides settling for a point.
