CHADWELL boxer Valerian Spicer – who is still on a high after putting up a great display at the National Female ABA Championship Finals in Cannock last month – has been testing her fight skills again.
Last week Spicer fought in Sweden in the Golden Girls tournament in Boras, writes Frazer Clark.
She said: “I boxed there two years ago as a novice and won. But this time round I went back as an elite boxer – in the 57kg catorgory – and I won my first bout against a Swedish girl called Klara Svensson”
She made it through to the semi-finals but this time lost out to the talented Finnish fighter Emilia Skriko by the margin of 9-6.
Spicer was still on a big confidence boost from her performance in Cannock last month. She was edged out by world number two Lisa Whiteside (Larches & Savick ABC).
Spicer said: “I was apprehensive as it was my first world class bout and my only third four round bout.
“I caught her a few times from range in the first round as she struggled with my long style. But I never managed to get into any rhythm.”
