Entertaining stuff at Ship Lane this evening.
But Thurrock are beaten quite comfortably in the end.
The hosts went 1-0 down after 10 minutes when Joe Healy, who looked to be offside, dinked the ball over Viner.
The visitors doubled their lead when Lee Clark headed home from 16-yards after Onyenma failed to clear.
Before half time, Matt Turpin gave Fleet hope when he turned in Leroy Griffiths' cross.
But in the second half, an organised Welling made themselves difficult to break down and headed clear every long ball Thurrock played.
In the 63rd minute, the Wings put the game out of sight when some suicidal defending by Lawrence Riga, as he played the ball across his own box straight to Ross Lafayette, allowed the Wings 10 to pick out Healy, unmarked, who carried the ball into the box and smashed it across Viner to make it 3-1.
Thurrock huffed and puffed in front of goal, with Charlie Stimson hitting the post late on but they never looked like breaching a commanding Welling back four!
9:34pm
Full time! Thurrock 1 - 3 Welling United
9:34pm
Stimson hits the post! Low shot across goal from 18-yards but it spins off the far post. Thurrock on top in the last 5 minutes but that was a rare break through.

9:32pm
Thurrock are huffing and puffing in front of goal, but there's still no final ball. As I type, Lawrence Yiga lumps a long ball up towards Stimson, but it's food and drink for Fraser Franks, who for the up-teenth time heads the ball back whence it came.
9:30pm
Another great ball in from Thurgood, but not one Thurrock player makes contact.
9:28pm
Another chance goes begging for Welling as Jamie Day's free kick is parried by Viner, and flicks up for Lafayette who heads over with the goal at his mercy.
9:26pm
GOAL: Cheshunt 1-2 GRAYS ATHLETIC - Junior Baker (75) http://t.co/WaqWEbcd #grayslive

9:25pm
Nice one-two between Stimson and Leroy Griffiths, but Stimsons low first time shot is well saved by Mott, low to his right.
9:24pm
Corner for Thurrock is headed clear. Welling comfortable at the moment, but one goal will change this.
Can Thurrock nab one in the next couple of minutes?
9:22pm
Great chance for Welling to seal it, as Lafayette goes on a maisy run towards the edge of the box, but Gallagher fails to get his pass under control and the ball trickles into Viner's arms.
9:21pm
Thurrock substitution: Frank Griffin off, Lewis Perkins on.
9:20pm
The referee is giving Mark Stimson a talking to now - not sure what happened there. But there was a lot of anger that the referee failed to give a corner to Fleet a few minutes ago. It could well stem from that.
9:18pm
Free kick to Fleet, whipped in by Thurgood from the middle of the pitch, midway inside the Welling half. Turpin is there at the back post, but he heads just over. Was a tough header.
9:15pm
Better from Thurrock as they build towards goal a little more patiently. But Luke Wanadio then strikes high and wide from 25 yards.
9:12pm
GOAL: CHESHUNT 1-1 Grays Athletic - Ryan Wade (58) http://t.co/WaqWEbcd #grayslive

9:12pm
Thurrock need the ball. They've been so wasteful in possession in the last few moments, playing many long, hopeful balls.
Yellow card for Stuart Thurgood and Fola Orilonishe. Must be for dissent, as Thurrock head clear another Welling corner.

9:05pm
Welling sub: Scott Kinch replaced by Theo Fairweather-Johnson
9:05pm
Another poor goal to concede. Lawrence Yiga had plenty of time with the ball at his feet to pick a decent option or just clear altogether.
But he opts, instead, to play the ball back across the edge of the box, straight to Ross Lafayette, who picks out Healy in acres of space to his right. He takes one touch into the box and smashes the ball across Viner.
9:03pm
GOAL! Thurrock 1 - 3 WELLING UNITED - Joe Healy 63'
9:01pm
Thurrock are retrieving the ball well at the moment. But when they get it, they're struggling to pick out the man who'll put the ball in. i.e balls into the box are being cleared everytime
8:59pm
Still Bishops Stortford 0 - 0 Chalfont St Peter. The winner here, plays the winner there.
8:58pm
Tilbury 1 (Barnett 57) Redbridge 0.

8:57pm
Thurrock so close to levelling!
Wanadio was set away down the right, Mott came a long way off his line and Wanadio lobbed him. The ball was bouncing towards goal but was cleared by a Welling player in the nick of time.
8:56pm
Young Frank Griffin a little wasteful on the ball again, playing an ambitious through ball to no one.
8:54pm
And Viner then collects the resulting free-kick, but a little scrap ensues. I think Viner felt he's been challenged late and he and the Welling forward are warned by the referee. Viner needs to be careful.
He's getting a lot of stick from the Welling contingent behind the goal too.
Stimson is booked now for a late challenge on the halfway line.
8:52pm
Yellow card for Will Viner. Yiga completely misjudged the bounce of a long Welling ball forward, Lafayette bounded clear (but was going wide) and Viner came off his line, looking a little cumbersome and gets a booking.
Not sure it was a professional foul, but clumsy from Viner.
8:49pm
Confident start to the half from Fleet. Moving the ball well and making space for themselves. Griffiths and Stimson's partnership needs to flourish this half - little and large.
8:46pm
Half time change for Thurrock: Mark Onyenma replaced by Ben Walster. Bad first half for Onyenma.
8:45pm
Second half is underway
8:42pm
Welling are warming up for the second half. Quite literally.
They're doing shuttle runs and everything... can't say i've ever seen that before?
8:41pm
Some half time scores:
In the Ryman Div One North:
Cheshunt 0 - 1 Grays Athletic (Beaney, 16')
Tilbury 0 - 0 Redbrige
8:36pm
Great entertainment here at Ship Lane.
Welling went 2-0 up, first through Joe Healy after 10 minutes and then through Lee Clark 11 minutes later.
Thurrock looked to be down and out, but a clever free kick by Leroy Griffiths was turned in at the back post.
Thurrock then came into their own - moving the ball well with Wanadio in particular, looking sharp. Good late pressure might have led to a Thurrock leveller, but it wasn't to be.
Big half time team talk now for Mark Stimson. Fleet not out of this!
8:32pm
Half time - what a half!
8:31pm
Neat spell for Thurrock now, with Welling fail to clear their lines. Fleet probing for a final ball. It comes in, too, from Wanadio and Orilonishe has it taken off his head as he sets himself to head home.
8:30pm
Great touch in the Thurrock box from Obersteller sees him get the ball down. He cuts back to Gallagher whose shot from 16 yards is well blocked.
Under a bit more pressure now Fleet - just being a tad careless in possession.
Plenty more goals in this though.
8:28pm
Griffin just trying to do a little too much at the moment. He tried a little Cruyff turn on the edge of his own box, which loses him possession when a simple ball would have done.
Welling fire the shot over though.
8:26pm
Luke Wandio's corner is too high though and Welling can break again. Lou Fazakerley over hits another cross though, and from the left, Viner collects Healy's ball in.
8:25pm
Corner for Fleet now. This is one heck of a game!
8:24pm
Great football by the Wings comes to nothing. Great football in the middle by Healy who plays the ball out wide to Gallagher. He plays Fazakerlay in on the over lap but his cross, with plenty of options in the box is poor.
8:21pm
A couple of promising breaks for Thurrock in the last minute, but Griffin and then Fola are caught in possession after winning the ball back.
Lots of possession for Fleet and a good chance too, following some great football.
Orilonishe cut inside with the ball, played it up to Wanadio, who, with his back to goal fed in Onyenma who darted in off the right wing and shot early, with the ball going just wide.
Promising stuff from a resurgent home side.
8:18pm
Fleet are back in it then.
Another corner, this time it goes straight over the top of the players gathered in the Welling box and the Wings can relieve the pressure.
8:17pm
It was another free-kick for Fleet. More central and closer to goal than the one of a few moments ago. Three were over the ball, but it was a cheeky, well delivered low ball in by Griffiths. Amid the melee and mess of bodies, it looks like Turpin turned it in at the back post, though it might have come off a Welling player.
8:15pm
GOAL! THURROCK 1 - 2 Welling United - Matt Turpin
8:13pm
Free kick for Fleet now, as Fazakerley comes in on Griffiths long after the ball is played.
Thurrock turn the freek kick in, but only after Stimson has rugby tackled Mott, making him drop it.
8:11pm
Yellow card for Mark Onyenma. Horrible opening 25 for the left back. Ross Lafayette, who looked badly injured is up and about now. He'll want to be on for this free-kick, which is down by the touchline and well cleared by Thurrock.
8:09pm
Well Fleet have it all to do now and their heads have well and truly dropped.
8:08pm
GOAL: Cheshunt 0-1 GRAYS ATHLETIC - Kenny Beaney (16) http://t.co/WaqWEbcd #grayslive
— @graysathscores 09 October 2012
8:07pm
Poor goal for Thurrock to concede and they have a mountain to climb now. After another failed clearance by Thurrock, Joe Healy collects bursts into the box. His cross is headed away by Onyenma, but it's a poor header and Clark, from 15 yards out, heads in off the bar.
8:05pm
GOAL! Thurrock 0 - 2 WELLING UNITED - Lee Clark
8:04pm
Good spell of possession for Welling after a mis-placed pass by Stimson, but Thurrock get numbers behind the ball making themselves difficult to break down.
8:02pm
Thurrock have been a little better in the last few moments, but they're struggling to make things happen in the Welling half.
Couple of nervy moments at the back, too.
7:58pm
And Lafayette comes very close to making it 2-0. He picks up the ball from a tight angle after a failed clearance by Onyenma, but is half volley across goal bounces wide.
7:57pm
It's a cheeky finish by Healy, but he looked to be offside. He broke away from the defence on the edge of the 18 yard box, and the ball bounced through to him.
Viner came out and Healy dinked it over him into the corner.
Contentious lead for Welling, but the flag stayed down.
7:54pm
GOAL! Thurrock 0 - 1 WELLING UNITED - Joe Healy
7:52pm
Luke Wanadio looking sharp and strong tonight. Not seen much of the ball so far, but he's looked good when it's come his way.
No real chances in the game yet. Thurrock looking for the "Hollywood" ball quite often early on. But they look organised at the back.
Griffin and Thurgood in front of the defence might be a smart move by Stimson.
7:48pm
Nice foray down the right from Wanadio, showing pace and skill, but his final ball was aimless.
7:46pm
Well dealt with by Fleet. They clear the first ball into the box and the second delivery is collected by Viner. Nice easy catch for him. Could be a busy night for the young keeper.
7:45pm
Early corner for Welling.
7:44pm
We're off then!
7:41pm
Just had a quick chat with Thurrock chairman Tommy South.
He says Thurrock shouldn't be here tonight, adding the job should have been done on Saturday. He hopes they haven't missed the boat.
We're about to find out!
The teams are out...
7:38pm
Charlie Stimson's goal return is just as impressive though. He has three in six games and he starts up-top with Leroy Griffiths tonight.
17-year-old Frank Griffin starts in the middle for Fleet. He's made a couple of impressive outings in defence for Fleet this season. Big night for him.
7:35pm
Welling's striker Ross Lafayette has penned a deal keeping him at the club until the end of the season this week.
He's got six in ten for the Wings and proved he can be a danger on Saturday.
7:33pm
So back at Welling on Saturday, this game finished 1-1, with Stimson bagging the opener and Lafayette equalising. Matt Turpin had a goal ruled out for Fleet, but it was a close game that could have gone either way.
This should be a cracker.
Welling sit 5th in the Conference South, but the league is unbelievable close. Seven points separate 21st and 4th... madness.
7:30pm

Not much at stake then...
