HAVE you been asked about PPI recently? It means Payment Protection Insurance, but I think it should be changed to Pesky Pestering Interviewers.

They seem to be phoning me up every day now telling me I can reclaim all the payment protection I never had in the first place!

My email in-box is full of them and even my mobile is getting texts telling how many thousands I am owed. They dress it up with taunts like “get your own back on the bankers”.

Mind you – I wouldn’t want to be a banker nowadays, would you? To read most newspapers you’d think they were on the food-chain somewhere below sewer rats and swamp lizards. I suppose there are some small compensations. Sewer rats don’t drive BMWs and get million pound bonuses for a start!

There’s no denying they’re unpopular at the moment. But I would like us to spare a thought for the forgotten bankers – the tellers and small branch managers who work hard for much smaller rewards, offering much greater service.

Take my bank. The Nationwide, in Stanford-le-Hope, closed last Friday after decades of faithful service. Thank you girls for looking after us over the years! Tracy – I hope you’re still wearing your balloon hat.

Whether you’re looked on as a fat cat or sewer rat or whether you’re just beavering away doing a good job faithfully serving others – God loves you! He sees your heart and knows your motives and one day – perhaps sooner than you think – you’ll have your reward. [Proverbs 11: 18] – JOHN.
