A SECTION of the A1012 remains closed following an accident this morning.
The accident happened on the road, which is between the Stifford Interchange and the Treaclemine roundabout, just before 9am this morning and involved a red Kia Ced and a black Skoda Fabia.
The Skoda left the road and travelled around 30 feet down the embankment, where it hit a tree.
The female driver of the Skoda, in her 40s, was taken to Basildon Hospital.
Part of the road remains closed while the car is lifted from the embankment.
