LONG-SERVING councillor Yash Gupta and his wife Pushpa celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in a local restaurant last Sunday.

At a surprise bash, organised by Mr and Mrs Gupta’s children and grand children, the couple wore traditional wedding dresses as 50 guests joined them in commemorating their 50 years of marriage.

At a temple in Watford earlier in the day, Mr and Mrs Gupta renewed the vows they made to each other in Amritsar, India.

Mr Gupta, Labour councillor and current deputy mayor, said: “It was a great day. When we got married, we never thought we would live so long to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary!

“There are only a few people who have the great fortune to celebrate 50 years married.”
