A GENEROUS worker has donated his retirement gift from his bosses to Little Havens Children’s Hospice.

Alan Hudson, 64, decided to donate his retirement cash of £3,087 after 41 years of working at the Port of Tilbury.

His donation will help fund more than 190 hours of nursing care by a specialist children’s nurse at the hospice in Thundersley.

Presenting the cheque to the hospice during a special reception in his honour, Alan said it was a simple decision to make.

Alan, of the Willows, Grays, added: “As a family man and grandfather, I chose Little Havens because of the wonderful care and support they provide for children and families in Essex.

“I consider myself extremely lucky to have had 41 years service in the port industry and I wanted to give my gift to a local charity.”

He started work at the port for Scruttons in 1970 and gradually worked his way up to become a terminal supervisor for the port in 2003.

He added: “It gives me great pleasure knowing this money will be making a difference by going to a good cause.”

Business manager Neil Davis said: “It is extremely kind of Alan to donate his retirement gift to such a wonderful local charity.

“His 41 years of service show an outstanding commitment to the port and he will be greatly missed by his colleagues and customers who have had the pleasure of working with him over the years.”

Peter Hall, community fundraiser for the hospice added: “We are very grateful for his support and it is such a kind gesture on behalf of the children and their families.”

A Generous man. Shame though after 41 years his bosses only gave him £3,087! that's just over £75 a year. Wonder what they get when they retire!

What a fantastic gesture...this just goes to prove that there are still a lot of people who will go that extra mile to help Charities.
