FORTY-FIVE members sang Jerusalem at our June meeting. Then birthday cards were given out, including one to our oldest member Edna Winks, who is 96.

President Doreen Kelly attended the National WI AGM in Liverpool earlier this month.

She gave us a resume of her trip there, and said the main speaker had been a man who had led a criminal life from the age of 10 years and had spent a total of 20 years in prison, including a term for murder, but had now turned his life around.

The resolutions debated resulted in a vote against the closure of public libraries, but due to a lack of information on the issue of mega-farming for British produce, no decision was made.

Our speaker was Lucy Burchell, who runs a fabric and design business, and she showed us various ways of using fabrics and paper to enhance our homes. Sue Dunn thanked her for her talk. Final arrngements were made for our 50th birthday party at the Fleet in July, and names taken for our August cream tea.

Jean Phillips won the raffle and Win Reekie won the instant raffle. May Donaldson won the competition for a homemade craft item, and flower of the month was won by Margaret Rogerson and Sandra Blackburn.
