A WOMAN is fighting for her life after a three-car crash on the M25.

The smash happened on the anti-clockwise stretch of the motorway between junctions 29 and 30.

A silver Ford Fiesta, a blue BMW and a green Mini all crashed and the front seat passenger in the Mini, a 23-year-old woman from Chelmsford, suffered serious injuries.

She was taken by paramedics to Basildon Hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

The driver of the Mini, a 25-year-old man from Chelmsford, and the driver of the BMW, a 50-year-old man from Colchester, were both uninured.

The Fiesta driver, a 32-year-old man from Basildon, was arrested at the scene of the crash on suspicion of dangerous driving.

He remains in custody where he is being questioned by police.

Following the crash, which happened at 6.30pm on Wednesday, a section of the M25 was closed for seven hours and diversions were put in place while officers carried out an investigation and debris was cleared from the road.
