TILBURY’S BNP councillor Emma Colgate will contest the Thurrock seat at the next General Election.
Party leader Nick Griffin made the announcement during a visit to Grays today.
Its is the second time in under a month that the far right party has descended on the town.
Mr Griffin revealed that he was going to stand for election in Thurrock originally but had decided he would be “better off in Barking”.
He said: “I’m here to hand the candidacy over to Emma Colgate.
“She is a very good local councillor with a good local record, and an excellent candidate for Parliament.”
Asked if he thought the BNP could win the Thurrock seat, he said: “Its a do-able possibility.
“The bookies have odds on us winning a seat at 3-1, its not a certainty but this is one of the possibilities, although there is work to be done.”
