A WOMAN whose world has been turned upside down by cancer is hosting a charity event to raise awareness.

Mother-of-three Cheryl King, from Broxburn Drive, South Ockendon, was diagnosed with breast cancer on November 19 last year at Southend Hospital.

Cheryl had previously found two lumps and had them removed, but this time she was told it was cancer.

Cheryl said: “I was diagnosed the day before my daughter’s 21st birthday. It was devastating for us all.”

It is her three children who have supported Cheryl since she was diagnosed with the disease.

She has two daughters aged 22 and 20, and her son is 16-years-old.

The 41-year-old said: “They are everything to me. A lot of pressure has been put on them.

“They had to become mum and do everything in the house from cooking and cleaning to bathing me and making sure I had taken all my medication.

“They showed me how much I mean to them with unconditional love and I cannot thank them enough. They are my world.

“My mother has not got in touch as we have not spoken for nine years. I have siblings and not one of them has offered any help.”

She has been referred to a plastic surgeon to have a mastectomy to reduce the risk of the breast cancer returning.

Cheryl added: “I have been told there is a strong possibility it will come back as my cancer was grade three, it was very aggressive.”

She has found help through the charity Breast Cancer Care.

As a way of saying thank you to the organisation for their support, she is hosting a karaoke and pink night at the Woodlands Edge, in Broxburn Drive, South Ockendon.

The event will take place on Saturday, December 12, from 1pm with a raffle, leg waxing and head shaving all taking place. Karaoke will start from 8pm.
