SWASHBUCKLERS are set to invade a Thurrock theatre as Gilbert and Sullivan’s operetta Pirates of Penzance is brought to life at the Thameside in Grays.
Churches Drama and Opera in Thurrock (CDOT) will be performing the operetta at the Orsett Road-based venue from November 11 to 15, nightly at 7.30pm with a matinee on the afternoon of Saturday November 15.
This show is arguably one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s funniest and best loved collaborations, with lots of comedy action between the swashbuckling pirates and the band of bumbling policemen.
The whole plot is based upon a misunderstanding which can only be resolved in a typically preposterous Gilbertian fashion, while the music contains some of Sir Arthur Sullivan’s most popular and enduring songs.
This year marks a temporary break in CDOT’s annual productions at the Thameside Theatre, as the Society will be focusing for a while on concert performances, presenting music from stage and screen, raising money for various funds and charities.
Tickets, priced £8-10 are available from the Society Box Office (01375 673237) or from the Thameside Theatre on 0845 300 5264.
