TEN volunteers from the Prince’s Trust are going to restore the back garden of 1st Grays Scout Group as part of a community project.

The team of volunteers from Thurrock, who are aged between 16 and 24, chose the task as part of the Prince’s Trust requirements to undertake a community project.

Volunteer Sam Smith, 17, of Long Lane, Grays, said: “We have chosen this task as this beautiful piece of land has become overgrown and dangerous for the children and adults that use it.

"We want to make a beautiful, safe environment that the children will love and enjoy and also learn the skill of maintaining it."

Once the volunteers have completed the task the scouts will be able to open the garden and hall, which is situated behind the Thameside Theatre in Grays, to the local community which will help them raise funds.

The team started work on Monday October 20 and are set to complete the garden on Friday November 7.

To raise funds for the project the Prince’s Trust plan to hold a charity football match at Thurrock Football Club in Ship Lane, Aveley but are in need of financial support to afford the pitch fees of £350.
