A THURROCK couple have warned of a "serious accident" unless something is done about visibility at a mini-roundabout.

Lee Moss, 41, of Carew Close, Chafford Hundred, has called for action over the roundabout at the junction of Carew Close, Clockhouse Lane and Drake Road.

Lee, who has lived in Carew Close with wife, Jackie, 37, and their two children for six years says the problem has always been there.

He said: "If drivers aren't careful there's going to be a serious accident. I think that there should be a two-way mirror."

Jackie has asked for bushes to be cut back because she has a small car and it is hard for her to see traffic coming towards her from all directions.

She said: "We rang the council when we moved into the Close and they said they would sort it out as soon as they can.

"Six years have passed and there's still no action.

"There have also been many accidents down the Clockhouse Lane turning and those cars would be left there, still stuck in a bush for days.

"When our family members come to us to visit they say that roundabout is an absolute joke."

The couple are now calling for traffic calming measures to be installed.

Councillor Tunde Ojetola, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: "We thank the Gazette and local residents for bringing this problem to our attention.

"Safety is of course a top priority and if we believe the roundabout is dangerous and it meets Thurrock Council's criteria to be improved for safety reasons it will be."

*IN July 2005 the same roundabout featured in the Gazette when another resident, Maria Levy, spoke up of her fears.

Mrs Levy and other Carew Close residents collected a petition about the junction and at the time a council spokesperson said the matter would be examined by the the road safety team.

The spokesman added: "Mirrors are not permitted on the public highway. They are not an authorised sign and they can cause accidents if people don't know they are there. We have been negotiating with a developer to get the bushes cut back and we have agreed for it to be done."
