A pair of Orsett golfers have received Royal Humane Society Certificates for saving the life of a golfer who collapsed on the golf course following a severe heart attack.

Richard Parker, Ron Davy and Steve Terry, all Thurrock residents and Orsett members were playing golf at Orsett golf club in Brentwood Road and were halfway down the first hole when Steve collapsed.

At first, Richard and Ron thought he had just tripped over but when he didn't get up they realised something was wrong.

Steve had had a heart attack and had stopped breathing.

Richard and Ron ran to help and between them administered mouth to mouth resuscitation and CPR to Steve.

Other members dialled 999 and within ten minutes paramedics were on the scene.

Steve later underwent open heart surgery to replace a defective heart valve.

A spokesman for Orsett golf club said: "Thanks to Richard and Ron, he has since made a full recovery and is back walking the fairways trying to improve his golfing handicap and forever grateful that he chose that day to play with Richard and Ron!"
