AS politicians we have to take positions on issues every day.

Naturally you cannot please all the people all the time, but I will always be honest about the actions I take.

I was very pleased that Highways England have taken the action I requested to install barriers at the Lakeside junction.

It is without doubt the one issue on which I have received the most complaints since I became an MP.

Residents regularly report their misery and frustration at the noise generated final by this activity.

I have no doubt that the action will be welcomed by many residents.

But my social media feed shows a different picture.

Over a thousand comments most of which are hostile, some abusive.

But I am satisfied I did the right thing for my constituents.

Just because it is said on social media does not make it true or representative.

And so to free school meals. Last week we voted to extend the entitlement to 50,000 extra children.

Not a single child will lose their free school meal. It is very disappointing that Labour have tried to frighten parents into thinking their child’s meal will be taken away.

Channel 4 and the BBC have both confirmed that the claims that children will lose their free school meals are bogus.

So lets have a bit more honesty. Debate is an essential part of democracy but not when based on deliberate misinformation.
