Scores of people attended an early remembrance event in Purfleet as services begin in the borough.
Mayor of Thurrock, Councillor Tunde Ojetola laid the first poppy wreath at the memorial and was followed by the MP Jackie Doyle-Price and a number of other organisations.
Councillor Ojetola said: “The morning was brilliantly put together, including a wonderful parade and my thanks go to Purfleet Heritage and Military Centre, St Stephen’s Church, Ensign Bus Company and everybody else who was involved.
“What is most impressive is the turn out for the early weekend service. It is great to see the commitment that the people of Purfleet continually show towards our Armed Forces.
“I really encourage everybody to come along to one of the many services being held across the borough this weekend.”
The event took place on Sunday, November 5.
